Our Services
Rescue & recovery
Milner Boardman & Partners
Milner Boardman & Partners our associated business based in Hale provides a full range of Corporate Rescue and Recovery services. It is a well known fact that many business failures could have been avoided if the owners had taken the right advice at the right time. Some of the commonest causes of company collapse are bad debts, reduced demand, excessive borrowing, and low property values. All too often business owners do not face up to these problems until it is too late. Moreover, directors who ignore such problems run the risk of committing offences under the Insolvency Act such as fraudulent trading, misfeasance, wrongful trading, and preferential or undervalue transactions - for which the penalty might be disqualification, or worse! The key is to seek professional help as soon as the first signs of difficulty appear. With timely advice a company may be saved from liquidation or receivership, particularly if there is a genuinely profitable core to the business. Our team of trained professionals can help you identify the cause of your problems and recommend solutions to improve profitability and cashflow. In some cases we can help you arrange a corporate or individual voluntary arrangement, which will allow you an opportunity to try to trade out of difficulty. If it is necessary for your business to go into administration, receivership, or insolvency, we can advise and assist you, but the best advice is to come in for regular business health checks so we can identify potential difficulties at an early stage and recommend appropriate courses of action in good time.

We are an independent firm of Licensed Insolvency Practitioners based in Hale, a thriving and wealthy suburb of Manchester.
The Partners
| Colin Burke
Colin has worked in insolvency since 1984, becoming a Partner of Milner Burke, now Milner Boardman & Partners, in 1995. Prior to 1984, he was involved in the administration and development of a number of enterprises, particularly in the service industry. He was recruited into the insolvency industry specifically because of his hands-on experience of running businesses and his resulting ability to understand the stresses and strains encountered by Company Directors.
Having given up amateur football at the age of 50, he now engages in gentle jogging and vigorous walking, whilst watching the professional game whenever he can.

Gary qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1983 and, with Elaine Jess, immediately set up the accountancy partnership of Milner & Co, which eventually merged into Milner Boardman Limited. Within the audit practice, he specialised in advising clients on the sale of businesses and all aspects of corporate development. In 1995, he adjusted his skills to include company rescue and turnaround and is now a qualified insolvency practitioner.
A dedicated family man, he loves golf and Manchester City FC in equal measure. A child of the 60s, he grew up assisting his parents run market stalls selling wool. He considers himself the only turnaround specialist who can knit!
garyc@milnerboardman.co.uk | | | Darren Brookes
Darren has worked in insolvency for 10 years, having joined Milner Boardman & Partners from BDO Stoy Hayward in Manchester. In 2004 he joined the firm as the third licensed insolvency practitioner. He has wide experience in all aspects of corporate recovery and individual insolvency.
An accomplished Non-League footballer, he has now hung up his boots apart from indulging in the occasional five-a-side game. He also watches Manchester City FC.
